Ring Stones completes work on Primrose Mill development

Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction have successfully completed work on social landlord Calico’s first new development in Burnley, Primrose Mill.

The scheme was developed on the empty Primrose Mill site in the Briercliffe area of Burnley.

It is the first housing development completed by Ring Stones, and consists of a range of high-quality housing, including 48 two and three bedroom houses and bungalows, and 12 apartments.

The scheme has provided 30 houses for affordable rent and 14 for sale, as well as 16 affordable rent homes for over-55s.

The work carried out by Ring Stones took 24 months to complete – work commenced in January 2014 and was completed in December 2015, with over 75% of labour coming from the local area.

One aim of the development was to provide employment opportunities for local apprentices from all trades – in total, 15 apprentices worked on the project, two of whom have since received full-time contracts after successfully completing their apprenticeships.

The scheme was officially opened at a special ceremony attended by residents, staff and partners.

Speaking about the development, Mark Cutler, Managing Director of Ring Stones, said:

“I’m tremendously proud of the work the team has done on the Primrose Mill development, which is of the highest standard.

“Primrose Mill is a fantastic achievement, and it’s really great to see just how much of a sense of community has already developed among the residents already living on the estate.

“The development has also given us the chance to offer so many enthusiastic young apprentices from the community a step up in their career.

“Social profit and giving something back is at the very heart of what we do at Ring Stones, so it was important to ensure that we gave this opportunity to young local people.”

Helen Thompson, Calico’s Director of Customer Services, said:

“We’re really proud of Primrose Mill as it represents what Calico is all about, which is improving people’s lives.

“A large part of that is building communities and sustainable places and, here at Primrose Mill, we have a very diverse range of residents, all living in one area.

“The work Ring Stones has done here at Primrose Mill is of the highest standard, and the development serves as a fantastic showcase for the excellent work they do.”
