A new £3.5 million complex needs homelessness centre in Lancashire has officially opened its doors following a seven month build by Ring Stones Maintenance and Construction, part of The Calico Group.
Built on Mitre Street, Burnley, the new Gateway facility has been specifically designed for services that will improve the health and wellbeing of homeless and vulnerable people with complex needs.
Gateway comprises of 30 en-suite rooms, including four disabled rooms and access throughout, as well as communal areas, training kitchens and a sunken courtyard.
Ring Stones started work on the build on 14th November 2017 on the site of a former local pub.
Ring Stones operatives were faced with the difficult task of demolishing the pub by hand, as the natural stone was required to be reused on the Gateway build as per the planning agreement.
The site is also located in the Canalside Conservation Area of the historic Weavers Triangle in Burnley.
The building’s structure is a steel framework which can be easily altered if any further changes to the building are required.
The build took just over seven months, and work was officially completed on 18th June 2018.
All of the operatives who worked on the build are from the Lancashire area, helping to increase employment opportunities in the region.
The project also provided vital experience for twelve apprentices from across Lancashire.
James Macaree, Assistant Director for Ring Stones, said:
“I’m so proud of the work the team has done on the Gateway development, which is of the highest standard.
“Gateway is a fantastic achievement, and I’m sure all the team feel a great sense of pride in working on a scheme that will benefit so many people in our community.”
Helen Thompson, Executive Director of Calico Homes and Ring Stones, said:
“We’re so pleased with the work Ring Stones has done to complete Gateway. It looks absolutely fantastic and will provide much-needed services to the most vulnerable people in Burnley.
“Gateway will provide essential support with rehousing, support and employment training that will help people get back on their feet – it will be a vital resource for the area.”
